Prosthodontics is a branch of dentistry which primarily deals with compensating lost teeth with prosthetic restorations. Every lost tooth should be replaced as soon as possible because, otherwise, negative changes develop which affect the neighbouring teeth, complementary teeth in the opposite jaw and even the jaw joint. Another very common reason for prosthetic restorations are aesthetic defects of present teeth (colour, shape or tooth position).
Prosthetic restorations are divided into two groups: fixed and removable restorations. Fixed restorations (crowns and bridges) are fixed in the mouth and the patient does not need to remove them after placement, while removable restorations (total dentures, visil dentures) can be removed by the patient every day to maintain the hygiene of oral cavity and the denture.
