Implantology

Implantology

Implantology (oral implantology) is a branch of dentistry dealing with the placement of dental implants. Dental implant is embedded into the jaw and after a while, it creates a strong bond with the bone. A crown is then placed onto the implant which serves as a carrier of the bridge or an anchor of the denture. Dental implant offers several advantages compared to other possibilities of tooth replacement. Apart from looking and functioning like a natural tooth, implants replace teeth without sacrificing the neighbouring ones. In case of replacement of one tooth with a bridge, it is necessary to grind the neighbouring teeth as well. The implant will also help preserve the alveolar ridge (no ridge resorption). Modern teeth implants are made of pure titanium to avoid any allergic reactions (biocompatible material), thus it is also accepted well by the body. At our office, we work with implants of renowned manufacturers such as Straumann, Zimmer, Nobel and ICX.
